MOVIE TITLE: Me Time
This comedy film will be available on Netflix on August 26, 2022.
RATING: HARD R
LENGTH: 1 hour 41 minutes
MOVIE REVIEW MOM GRADE: D for Don’t
IN A NUTSHELL:
The story is about a dad who finds time for himself for the first time in years while his wife and kids are away for a long weekend. He reconnects with a friend for a wild adventure.
THINGS I LIKED:
- I’m a big fan of Mark Wahlberg, so I was hoping for so much better. His character makes fun of the TV show Blue Bloods, which is a show his real-life brother starred in for thirteen years. He also references New Kids on the Block, since his brother was a band member.
- Kevin Hart used to drive me nuts because he always played the exact same kind of characters in every movie…like in this movie. In recent years, he has done some impressive work in dramatic roles and I was able to see that he had some depth as an actor.
- Seal gives a cameo performance. He sings in a duo with Kevin Hart. One of the character says about Kevin Hart’s voice, “He’s actually good!”
THINGS I DIDN’T LIKE:
- If you don’t like Kevin Hart when he plays a crazy, out-of-control guy, then you definitely won’t like this movie. Kevin Hart is in the majority of the scenes with his high-octane energy.
- Writer/director John Hamburg is known for his raunchy movies. Here’s another one to add to his sleezy filmography.
- The film is full of lazy writing that scrapes the gutter with potty humor.
- The movie uses green screens a few times. None of them looked good.
- The trailer was funnier than the entire movie.
- It’s disgusting that within minutes of Kevin Hart’s family leaving, he jerks off and goes to a topless strip show. Really? Gee, what a catch of a husband.
- Who names their son Dash? I’ll tell you. Two recent Netflix movies have characters named Dash.
- The entire plot seemed odd to me. The stay-at-home family man is the one who is wrong and needs to be taught a lesson in life, not the wild, irresponsible friend, nor the wife who never spends time with her children because of her career. What?
- The movie is super woke that unnecessarily pushes political agendas.
- Ultimately, the movie is a confusing mess. The content straddles super offensive rated R scenes with family-first messages mixed with random musical numbers.
TIPS FOR PARENTS:
- This movie is definitely NOT appropriate for kids.
- Tons of profanity, including F-bombs
- Super crude, dirty conversations
- A man sniffs a line of drugs
- Lots of alcohol
- A man projectile vomits. Disgusting.
- A man poops on his enemy’s bed
- Multiple vandalism scenes
- We see a completely naked man from the back. Other naked people are seen jumping into the ocean.
THEMES:
- Friendship
- Forgiveness
- Marriage
- Parenting
- Jealousy
- Family
FUNNY LINES:
Nothing really made me laugh even though this was supposed to be a comedy. Instead of laughing, my reaction was mostly, “Ewww.” So disappointing.
